This is my first official short story publication. The story, "Crowd Control", bears certain striking similarities with aspects of the Matrix films. The critics will surely think I'm being derivative, but this was written two years before the first Matrix ever came out. Still, my VR uses the same Alice and Wonderland drug metaphors. Plus the story has characters who dress in black, and who suspect at one point that their real world existence may also be a Matrix (a la Matrix Reloaded). Stranger still, there is an odd instance of time dilation that reads just like a description of bullet time. Plus the rebels speak about the Powers That Be in very similar languages of "control" and "choice". For what it's worth, I'm feeling pretty damn prescient about now. |
